Where do you live?
Habitat
Orcas are found in many areas of the ocean. They prefer cold water, though. Many orcas live in the Arctic and Antarctic regions of the seas, near the poles. They are commonly found on the coast of Norway, which is far North in Europe. Orcas can also be found in warm areas such as Florida, Hawaii, Australia, and the Gulf of Mexico. This is very uncommon. Orcas can rarely be found in fresh water. Once one was found 110 miles up the Columbia River in search of fish! Orcas can live in all oceans, not just the Polar seas. They live in the Epipelagic, or sunlight zone. This is the most shallow area in the ocean. Orcas are usually 20-60 feet from the top of the ocean. This is about 6-18 meters deep. |
